Tuberculosis Skin Testing (TB skin test) is offered for a $25 fee for a 1 step and $30 for a 2 Step at the health department.
TB skin tests are on Mondays and Tuesdays only.
The TB skin test indicates whether an individual has been exposed to the tuberculosis bacteria, which can lead to a contagious lung disease or impact other areas of the body, including the brain, kidneys, or spine. Individuals at a higher risk of infection may require testing for TB.
A TB skin test requires 2 visits for a 1 step
- First Visit: The test is placed.
-
Second Visit: 48 hours later for the test reaction to be read.
-
If the return appointment for test result is missed, the test must be repeated.
-
If the TB skin test reacts, a medical evaluation is usually required. The Communicable Disease Nurse, Crystal Phillips will help to guide you through that process and follow up with your treatment. For more information on tuberculosis and testing go online to the CDC Tuberculosis info page
-
A TB skin test requires 4 visits for a 2 step
- This would be identical to the first step, simply repeated the following week after the initial TB test results are read.
