The flu has arrived and a vaccination can reduce illness and prevent hospitalization. Influenza is a contagious respiratory illness with symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and fatigue. Children can experience vomiting and diarrhea. The best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated and it is not too late. Contact the Macon County Health Department to get your flu vaccination.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding benefits moms by burning calories to return to pre-pregnancy weight faster and saves money on formula and healthcare costs. It is good for babies by promoting healthy growth and development to reduce the risk of obesity and diabetes. A breastfeeding class will be held Thursday, January 5 @ 4pm and a breastfeeding support group Thursday, January 12 @ 4pm. Classes are free and open to all.
Prenatal Class
We are offering a prenatal class on Thursday 12/15 and Thursday 12/22 from 4:00-5:00 each day. Moms and Dads are both welcome as we discuss stages of delivery, bathing, feeding, immunizations, safe sleep, car seat safety and more. Attend both sessions for a chance to win a pack and play. Classes are no charge.
Arrive Alive
Everyone here at the Macon County Health Department wishes you a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season. Always Wear Your Seatbelt; Drive Sober; Focus on the Road; Don’t drive distracted; Don’t Drive Drowsy. Make it to your family safe this Thanksgiving.
Flu Shots Available
Flu shots are available at the health department Monday-Thursday from 7:45 am-5:30 pm, no appointment necessary. Due to unavailability of the flu mist we will not provide flu vaccinations in schools this year-sorry! We encourage you to bring your child in to the office or to see your medical provider for the flu shot.
