We know how important it is to maintain social distancing within our facility or workplace, however, it is just as important to be sure and social distance ourselves outside of work. CDC stated that although a person doesn’t show symptoms of COVID-19, they can still be contagious up to 48 hours before symptoms begin or may not show symptoms at all. Due to the uncertainties of COVID-19 we must continue to take the proper precautions to stop the spread of disease.
Staying 6 feet away from peers that are not within your household is recommended and encouraged. If you must go to visit someone, see if they can meet you outside and use the proper social distancing technique.
The more closely you interact with others and the longer the interaction, the more likely the chance of contracting COVID-19.
If you must be in close contact with another person, follow these recommended steps:
- Social distancing of at least 6 feet apart
- Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth
- Practice proper handwashing
- Do not share items (eating utensils, cell phones, remotes, etc.)
- Consider meeting outdoors, it is more ventilated than indoor spaces
Wearing a face mask is also still recommended. The graphic below demonstrates the importance of social distancing and wearing a mask. Remember, just because you are wearing a mask doesn’t mean you do not have to follow the social distancing order. Social distancing remains one of the best ways to help stop the spread of disease.
CDC - How to Wear Cloth Face Masks
Face coverings protect others from your respiratory droplets (how COVID-19 and other viruses are spread). Face coverings should—
- fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- be secured with ties or ear loops
- include multiple layers of fabric
- allow for breathing without restriction
- be able to be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape
When removing a cloth face mask, consider it contaminated so you should avoid touching the outside and launder it appropriately.
Gloves can be another form of personal protective gear that can help protect against the spread of viruses. If you choose to wear gloves, remember they are considered contaminated so be careful with anything you touch and remove properly.
